Tenancy Advice: The steps to getting your next rental property

Looking for rental homes in Taupo? You’ve come to the right place.

To secure quality rental homes in Taupo from The Property Store there is a process we have to follow, but we aim to make it as simple as possible. You will be required to prove you can pay your rent each week, look after a rental property, and you will report any problems with the home in a timely manner.

First we need your tenancy application, then we verify your references and details and contact you within 48 hours to let you know if your application has been successful.

We draw up the tenancy agreement and will organise with you to sign the agreement and the Bond Lodgment Form. Bonds are lodged with the Department of Building and Housing.

Move-in costs are equal to 6 weeks’ rent; 4 weeks bond, one week for first week’s rent and one week for the letting fee. Please note that keys to our rental homes in Taupo will not be handed over until payment is received in full.

Prior to your tenancy starting we will conduct a thorough pre-tenancy inspection. This is to protect the interest of both parties. We will take photos of the entire property right from the letterbox through to all exterior and interior fittings and fixtures.

You will be provided with a CD copy of the photos and a written copy of the inspection report. You then have 2 weeks to raise anything you believe should be added to the report. During the course of your tenancy we will visit the property to conduct an inspection and ensure all is well with the rental home. If anything goes wrong with the property between inspection times we ask you to please report it to us as soon as possible. You can do this by lodging a Repair Request Form.

Tenancy Advice: Emergency Situations

An emergency situation is whereby the safety of yourself as a tenant or the integrity of the building you rent are at risk. Please notify The Property Store as soon as possible.
